Wednesday's holdup of the First Commonwealth Bank in Ligonier Township bears similarities to an April robbery of the National City Bank in New Kensington where robbers used diversionary tactics to distract police.
There are four other unsolved bank robberies in Westmoreland County that the FBI is investigating:
&149 On Monday, a man robbed the S&T Bank in Youngwood by passing a handwritten note to a teller.
&149 On April 15, two men robbed the National City Bank in North Huntingdon by tossing garbage bags over the counter to the tellers and demanding money.
&149 In March, a man displayed a weapon to a teller at the National City Bank in Smithton before escaping on foot with the cash.
&149 In December, a gunman vaulted the counter at the National City Bank in North Huntingdon, pointed a gun at the teller's head and demanded access to the bank's vault. But the robber settled for taking cash out of three tellers' drawers. The man is suspected of having an accomplice because he communicated with another person on a two-way radio that he carried into the bank.
