A citizen and a sheriff's office employee, who recognized Morales as a former inmate, also called police to identify him, Mendoza said.
Morales is accused of robbing the Chase Bank inside a Fry's grocery at 1950 W. Ray Road on Monday afternoon. Police said the man walked quietly up to a teller and demanded money, instructing the teller to not activate the alarm.
The teller did not see a weapon, but the man threatened to use one if the teller didn't cooperate, police said.
Local media reported on the robbery and published the bank surveillance photos, leading to the arrest, Mendoza said.
The robbery is the most recent of four bank robberies in Chandler that have occurred in the last three weeks. Police say they haven't determined whether any of the robberies are related.
